Digital Health Consortium

How do you give a complex network of organisations one recognisable identity?

How do you give a complex network of organisations one recognisable identity?

Background

A regional digital health initiative brought together government, industry and academia around healthcare innovation. It needed an identity capable of representing very different stakeholders while remaining simple enough to work across institutional and public-facing communications.

Challenge

Create an identity rooted in its place of origin, centred on collaboration rather than any individual organisation, and capable of communicating to audiences beyond its immediate region.

What I did

I worked with the project team and stakeholders to translate the initiative's mission, ambitions and relationships into a series of visual directions.

The selected direction developed around the Japanese concept of musubi (結び - connection). Intersecting lines and points became a visual representation of government, industry and academia coming together around a shared purpose.

Outcome

The identity was officially unveiled by Aichi Prefecture on 5 June 2024 and subsequently applied across public communications, including materials aimed at older audiences.

More importantly, the consortium now had a visual system capable of representing a complicated network of organisations as one initiative.
